About the Competency to Stand Trial Summit
Subject matter experts Dr. Kathleen Kemp and Dr. Christy Giallella have been working to create a preliminary map of Lucas County’s Competency to Stand Trial (CST) process by interviewing individuals involved in the CST process in Lucas County and analyzing local data. Through this probe, Dr. Kemp and Dr. Giallella have created a report of their findings, identifying gaps in our system and opportunities for improvement.
The CST Summit is an opportunity for local professionals to learn more about issues related to the CST process and begin works towards enhancing our local system. The first sessions will cover national trends, current research, and key issues related to the CST process as well as best practices for mental health diversion before focusing in on Lucas County. Dr. Kemp and Dr. Giallella will then present their findings from Lucas County, allowing participants to provide feedback on the preliminary CST map and related findings. The Summit will then feature interactive sessions focused on both the Competency Process and Mental Health Diversion. These sessions will include a Working Group session where participants will identify priorities related to these topics and an Action Planning session where participants will strategize how to implement these priorities.
