Cases, lectures and training in ways of consulting for fear of childbirth and reducing traumatic childbirth experiences. The day will be based on a mix of obstetric consulting and therapeutic counselling.
Kamilla Groenemeijer Nielsen is a Danish obstetrician and psychotherapist who has worked with birthplan consultations for nearly 20 years. From the womens experiences and consultations Kamilla has summed up approaches to these difficult topic.
All consulting is centered around the pregnant woman and partner. Their experiences are true and we are in the consultations together to hold it with respect.
We read the woman, how does she express herself, what is her bodylanguage, where is she in her traumaresponse: Is she like heartbroken, angry, upgiving or in control.
All responses are valid, and we stand a better chance of understanding and counselling of we know which traumaresponse is present.
As we hold the trauma together with compassion, we go on to look at the last birth with factual eyes and look for meaningfulness of the previous events.
From that work we shape a possible birthplan for next birth.
To try and prevent traumatic childbirth we look at the basics: how do we as staff feel before attending a birth, how do we behave respectfully, give meaningfulness in events for the couple, optimize our communication also in emergencies. And we look deeper again to understand which trauma repsoense the woman is is in, in order to be a better birthattendant- midwife, doctor or doula.
