Community Witness CircleBefore dance, 6:15-8:00 pm
Co-facilitated by Lux Gypsum and Jasmine McCarthy
Participants must arrive by 6:30 pm to join. The container will be closed to new entries until our circle ends around 8:00 pm.
In this circle, we will make space for people to share feelings around safety and accountability in relation to our dance space. We will focus on inviting embodied, emotional expression with the intention for us to witness and empathize with each other's lived experience.
We will open the space with guidelines that support us to hold this container together, and close the space with a collective ritual to honor the core values and needs that we hold underneath the feelings that we share.
We may open up some space for ideas and solutions to be sprinkled in at the end, but that is not the focus of this circle. We believe that it is first important for us to hear and feel each other, since holding and tending to impact is a huge part of what we need to practice in responding to harm, and our solutions should be informed by these expressions.
This is a space:
- for current Om dancers to come together to express ourselves
- where embodied emotional expression is welcome and encouraged
- to witness each other without trying to rescue anyone or give advice
- where disagreement and difference of perspective is welcome and safe
- where we can practice nervous system regulation and holding complexity
What this is not:
- acute trauma-healing focused on one individuals trauma
- a restorative justice process centered around one specific community situation
- a space focused on seeking solutions
- a space to defame specific community members
ABOUT THE FACILITATORS:
Jasmine McCarthy
Jasmine is a licensed decolonizing somatic-based clinical mental therapist, hatha-vinyasa-kundalini yoga instructor, and tantric philosophy and meditation teacher. With a history of working with kids, families, and adults from a systemic approach of global classical and contemporary socioeconomic politics (Earth) and Western, Vedic, and Mayan astrology (sky), she is an advocate for unlearning the tendrils of empire within holistic sovereignty in order to reindigenize and revillage. Jasmine believes in the importance of grounding the nervous system, cultivating life force energy, exonerating one's being, and weaving loving compassion to all living beings for the purpose of collective liberation. Honoring indigenous practices and emphasizing marginalized perspectives, she assists others in utilizing their body to bridge eastern wisdom with western science through her signature offerings of Nervous System Reset, Shakti Maitri, Cyclical Embodiment, Shamanic Soundbath, Decolonizing the Maternal Lineage, Ceremonial Yoga, 1:1 work, other astrology-related workshops, and Mental Health Boxes.
