Join us at the Broadside for The NOLA Community Seafood Marketplace is a free, interactive community event celebrating the incredible seafood harvested along Louisiana’s coast.Inspired by the spirit of a farmer’s market, this seafood-focused gathering brings together local fishermen, chefs, artists, community organizations and members for a morning of local seafood, learning, conversation, and celebration!
Seafood harvesters will set up tables to sell their catch directly to the public while also displaying some of the gear they use to fish. Local chefs will demonstrate how to fillet fish, give tips on cooking seafood and provide samples of dishes for your tasting delight!
The event will also feature storytelling and music celebrating Louisiana’s coastal culture, including a special performance by Bruce "Sunpie" Barnes.
Throughout the morning, attendees will have opportunities to participate in small conversations and informal discussions about local seafood seasonality, responsible harvesting practices, and why supporting local seafood matters to our coastal communities.
Today, much of the seafood consumed in New Orleans and across Louisiana is imported and/or farmed, often without a clear story of where it came from or how it was produced. The NOLA Seafood Marketplace helps reconnect the community with the fishermen and farmers harvesting seafood in our own waters.
Come meet the people behind the catch, learn how to prepare delicious local seafood, and discover how supporting local harvesters strengthens our coastal communities and food systems.
Free and open to the public.
