Celebrated from October 31st through November 2nd, Día de Los Muertos is a widely celebrated Mexican holiday where families create ofrendas (altars) to honor their departed loved ones and invite their spirits to visit.Día de Los Muertos is deeply rooted in pre-Columbian Indigenous practices and has been influenced through Spanish colonization. Hundreds of years later, millions of people still celebrate this sacred holiday. In 2023, a survey showed that between 75% to over 80% of Mexicans celebrate Día de Los Muertos! This special holiday is celebrated by building an ofrenda (altar) and adding photos of loved ones with offerings such as their favorite food, flowers, jewelry, and other mementos.
On Sunday, November 2nd, we’re building a community ofrenda (altar) to lovingly honor friends and family who have passed. You’re invited to bring a photo of your departed loved one(s) to place on the altar and, if you wish, a small memento that reflects their life.
This altar is a space of remembrance and celebration —¡Presente!— honoring that love endures across time and space. Bring your photos, your stories, and your heart.
*Please, keep items small; no valuables or irreplaceable objects. We’ll hold a brief blessing of the ofrenda during our Sunday morning gathering.
