The Garden Exchange and Community Marketplace is all about community, connection, and giving good things another life.
It’s a place for people who want to sell, swap, downsize, pass things on, or simply come along and see what’s happening. Whether it’s excess produce from the garden, secondhand treasures, useful household bits and pieces, or quality upcycled goods, this is about keeping things moving, keeping things local, and keeping good stuff out of landfill. We also welcome handmade, upcycled and recycled items, as long as they fit the spirit of the event.
At its heart, this market is about practical community exchange. Affordable, local, useful, and just a little bit different from your standard market. You never quite know what you’ll find, and that’s part of the fun.
What you’ll find The market centres around: produce swapping, secondhand goods, recycled and upcycled items, community sharing, affordable stalls, information about the Timebank Hour Exchange and other garden-based opportunities. This is not a market for brand-new retail stock. Our focus is on reuse, sharing, and helping good items find a new home with someone who will appreciate them.
Selling at The Garden Exchange and Community Marketplace.
This market is a great local alternative to running your own garage sale. No need to advertise it yourself, no strangers turning up at your house, and no mucking around with the usual Facebook Marketplace or Trade Me carry-on. We take care of the promotion, and you bring your items, set up your space, and get selling. You can sell from a table, a mat, a gazebo setup, or a car-boot-style arrangement, depending on the layout of the site.
Please bring whatever you need to create your own setup, including tables, mats, racks, coverings, or display pieces. It’s a great option if you are clearing out quality items from home, topping up a stall with secondhand goods, or even fundraising for a group or community cause.
Booking and spaces.
Because space is limited, pre-booking is strongly recommended. Booking ahead is the best way to make sure you’ve got a spot. If you just turn up on the day, we can’t guarantee there’ll be room. As a general guide, one stall space is roughly the size of a standard car park, although final layout details may vary depending on the venue and setup for each event. Set-up and pack-down. Set-up details will be sent out before each event, and booked stallholders will be given the key information around arrival time, unloading, parking, and market hours. Where vehicle access is available for unloading, you may be asked to move your car once set-up is complete so the market space stays safe, tidy, and easy for shoppers to move around.
Wet weather and cancellations.
Because this is an outdoor event, the weather does have the final say from time to time. If bad weather is on the cards, we will usually make a decision as early as possible, often the night before. If the forecast is a bit all over the place, we may leave the call until the latest sensible time. Any cancellation due to wet weather will be posted on our Facebook page, so that is the best place to check for updates. If you’ve pre-booked a stall, we will also contact you directly by email using the address you booked with. Please check your inbox, and your spam or junk folder as well, just in case. If it is only light rain or passing showers, the market may still go ahead, and in that case, the decision to attend will be up to each individual stallholder.
If we cancel due to severe weather, your booking will be moved to the next market date. Stall fee policy: Stall fees are generally non-refundable and non-transferable because advertising, planning, and event costs are paid in advance. The exception is if we cancel the event due to severe weather. In that case, your booking will simply roll over to the next market. Before market day, if you’re unsure whether the market is going ahead, please check our Facebook page the evening before, and check your email if you are a pre-booked stallholder.
