About this Event
We are hosting a paint event where you can get outside, meet new people and leave your mark on a piece of canvas that will be used in an Art for All mural for the public library. This mural is all about community engagement and the act of people in Austin, creating together.
Carson Whittaker's work is about people and their stories. I want to capture these marks made with your kinetic energy and use them in a mural.
This is a moment to experiment with paint, abstract art, kinetic energy and community to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Sound intriguing?
We are calling it a mark making event because we will be doing an activity that results in a collection of different paint strokes and designs made by you!
The focus will be on using unconventional objects, methods and paint to make these marks.
The workshop will be led by, Carson Whittaker, an Art for All muralist and long time artist. She will lead the workshop through a few different exercises to start making these marks. We will explore what happens when we roll balls through paint and pass them around a canvas. We will also experiment with using other unconventional objects to make marks. At the end of the workshop there will be time to free paint different shapes that will be used in the mural. Once the paint is dry Carson will incorporate it into her mural design for the library.
All you need to bring is yourself, creative spirit and an open mind as we experiment with mark making together! Please come support arts in Austin and leave your mark on this mural!
