About this Event
Make Music Day is part of a global celebration held each year on June 21. Unlike a traditional music festival, it is designed to be open to everyone, with free, public music-making that welcomes amateurs, professionals, and curious beginners alike.
For this special gathering, we are turning Kindred Stories into a space for spontaneous sound and shared musical energy.
Community members are invited to stop by, pick up an instrument, and join an impromptu jam session.
Whether you play every week or have not touched an instrument in years, this is a chance to be part of something joyful, creative, and communal.
We will have instruments available, including acoustic guitar, electric guitar with amplifier, electric piano, ukulele, tambourine, and maracas.
Local artists are also invited to perform throughout the afternoon.

Kindred Stories is one of Houston’s most vital community-centered cultural spaces. This Third Ward bookstore is a gathering place dedicated to celebrating Black literature, marginalized voices, and experiences that bring people together.
