About this Event
You know your community better than anyone. We're here to listen about the problems community advocates, organizations and leaders are dealing with Long Beach to:
- Share more widely these problems with policymakers in the area
- Importantly, support community entrepreneurs and advocates and their ideas to solve problems as part of our role as a community lab for social good
On Tuesday, May 27, join The Difference Engine for a free Community Listening Session in Downtown Long Beach. Lunch is on us. All we ask is that you show up and share what's on your mind.
What is The Difference Engine?
The Difference Engine is a venture studio based in LA and supported by Arizona State University that works with communities to build real solutions to real problems. We believe the people closest to a problem are the ones best equipped to solve it. So we show up, we listen, and we help people build.
We support community entrepreneurs through three pathways: the Creative Justice Lab for young people, Distinguished Innovation Fellows for experienced professionals, and DifferenceCorps for everyone in between.
Why Long Beach?
Long Beach residents are dealing with persistent environmental pollution, rising costs of living, and real concerns about public safety. Those aren't abstract policy problems. They're daily life. We want to hear from the people living it: What ideas do you have? What would actually help? Who's already doing the work?
We're here to listen, to help tell those stories in ways that get attention, and to find the builders and organizations we can support.
This session is being coordinated on the ground by , a community outreach partner helping make sure the right voices are in the room.
Who should come?
Long Beach residents, neighbors, and anyone who cares about how things get better. No expertise required. No prior knowledge of The Difference Engine needed. Just bring yourself.
