This tour begins with the idea of slowness as method, material and memory. In slowing down, what might public art reveal to us?

Basking in Slowness: A Public Art Tour

Led by student intern Aida Nadirah (CHS, Year 4), Basking in Slowness approaches public art through slowness as method, material, and memory. Moving across the NUS campus, the tour considers how public artworks operate within everyday spaces of transit, labour, and study, and how they hold time differently from gallery-based works. Through the tour, participants will also be invited to slow down, notice overlooked details, and reflect on how learning, memory, and belonging unfold gradually within the university environment.

Route and Attire

  • The tour starts promptly at 4 PM at NUS Museum and ends at UTown, Education Resource Centre, roughly around 5 PM.
  • As the tour takes place outdoors across various locations on the NUS campus and requires navigating stairs, uneven pathways, and walking, we recommend wearing comfortable attire suitable for movement—such as a cap, moisture-wicking clothing, and walking shoes.

Weather Advisory

  • Please be prepared for varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and sudden rain.
  • We encourage participants to bring water, sun protection, insect repellent, and an umbrella.
  • In the event of severe wet weather, the tour may be delayed or cancelled for safety reasons. Participants will be notified as soon as possible in such cases – please check the email you used for registration for updates.

Disclaimer

This run of the tour is open only to NUS students, staff, and alumni. Please stay tuned for future runs of the tour that will be available for the public.

To ensure a safe and respectful experience for all, we ask participants to remain with the group throughout the tour and to refrain from straying from the route. The tour will proceed as scheduled, and we are unable to wait for latecomers or those who step away midway.

By joining the tour, you agree to uphold an environment of mutual respect and care for our student guides, organisers, and fellow participants. Disruptive or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated, and the Museum reserves the right to ask any participant to leave if such behaviour occurs to protect the well-being of others and the integrity of the programme.
