A research presentation by Neighborhood Partnership Housing Services (NPHS) and UCR's Center for Community Solutions (UCR CCS).
About this Event

This research presentation, pioneered by Neighborhood Partnership Housing Services (NPHS) with the expertise of UC Riverside's Center for Community Solutions (UCR CCS), is focused on a problem that defines the Inland Empire - land use. For many residents of the region, vacant lots in the middle of suburban neighborhoods, dilapidated and abandoned homes in urban areas, and increasing cost pressures on homeownership have laid bare the need for a more intentional process for development.

By mapping and analyzing data on vacant, abandoned, and tax-delinquent properties, our goal was to develop a proof of concept that sparks conversations on innovative policy tools and lays the groundwork to understanding whether publicly-led land banking, a practice in use in 19 others states across the nation, could be a viable practice in the Inland Empire, and across California.

This event, held as a breakfast reception, will include an overview of land banking, as developed by the Center for Community Progress (CCP), an overview of the tax-delinquency landscape in the Inland Empire per the UCR CCS team, and an interactive mapping exercise to help folks understand tax delinquency in their own neighborhood. We will then provide time for a Q&A with our research team and the team from the Center for Community Progress. The event will conclude with a networking opportunity for local and state legislators to discuss innovative approaches-–like land banking—to addressing tax-delinquent properties and to consider how these approaches might align with the current state and federal legal landscapes.

Light breakfast and free parking will be provided. Registration is required and space is limited.
