Tony Ramos, an Air Force veteran and dedicated locomotive engineer with BNSF, has been courageously battling glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer.On October 27, 2024, while at work, Tony suffered two grand mal seizures and had to be resuscitated.
What doctors first thought was a stroke turned out to be a brain tumor. After emergency transport to
UW–Madison, surgery revealed a grade 4 glioblastoma (GBM) — one of the most difficult brain cancers
to treat.
Doctors were able to remove 95% of the tumor, but the remaining portion could not be operated on
due to its location. Over the past year, Tony has endured radiation, multiple rounds of chemotherapy,
and ongoing care at Mayo Rochester, UW–Madison, and Northwestern. Despite every effort, the
remaining tumor has begun to grow again.
Throughout this journey, Tony continues to fight with unwavering faith and determination. His wife,
Janice, now serves as his full-time caregiver, and together they face daily emotional and financial
challenges.
