Tonight we gather in the shadow of the cross to remember the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. In the ancient tradition of Tenebrae, meaning “darkness,” we will hear the story of Christ’s passion through Scripture, prayer, and silence as the light gradually fades. With each reading, a candle will be extinguished, reminding us of the growing darkness that surrounded the world as Christ was betrayed, abandoned, and crucified. As we worship together across traditions, we come not as separate congregations but as one body remembering the depth of God’s love revealed on the cross. In quiet reflection and reverence, we enter the sorrow of this holy day, trusting that even in the deepest darkness, God is still at work.
