The Ceiba tree represents protection, connection, and spirituality and is native to Central and South America and Africa. This community-based art initiative is designed to foster connection, healing, and collective resilience. The process and completed project will represent our stories and the resilience of our community during a time when many have had to stay home and navigate challenging circumstances. This will help us remember what has happened in our community and together become a source of truth and memory for future generations. Join us for this time to be together as a community. We will have food from local restaurants available, supplies for creating your own contribution to the Ceiba Tree, and just time to be together.
This project is made possible in part from a grant from Springboard for the Arts and our partners: Arrive Ministries, City of Willmar, Woodland Centers, Community Connectors Services, and Willmar Area Arts Council.
Individual kits were sent out to families not leaving their homes. If you know of a family that is staying home and wants art supplies to contribute to project, reach out to John or Nicole with Purposes Artisans.
Sobre el Proyecto
El proyecto CEIBA es una iniciativa artística comunitaria diseñada para fomentar la conexión, la sanación
y la resiliencia colectiva. A través de un proceso creativo compartido, realizado en casa y de manera
presencial, las personas participantes contribuyen a una gran obra de mosaico inspirada en el árbol de la
Ceiba, una especie nativa de Centroamérica, Sudamérica y partes de África.
En muchas culturas, el árbol de la Ceiba simboliza la fortaleza, la conexión y la relación entre las raíces,
la comunidad y las futuras generaciones. En este proyecto, las piedras de cada familia formarán parte de
un mosaico más grande con la forma de una Ceiba. Juntas, estas piezas representarán nuestras
historias y la resiliencia de nuestra comunidad durante un tiempo en el que muchas personas hemos
tenido que permanecer en casa y enfrentar circunstancias dificiles.
Además de las piedras, se invita a las familias a compartir una breve reflexión escrita sobre sus
experiencias durante este tiempo. Estas historias nos ayudarán a recordar lo que ha sucedido en nuestra
comunidad. Nuestras narrativas personales son importantes y, juntas, pueden convertirse en una fuente
de memoria y verdad para las futuras generaciones.
