The Community Food Markets are a series of events held by Kiwassa Neighbourhood House with our partners Vines Art Festival, Aboriginal Mothers Centre Society (AMCS), and Vancouver Urban Food Forest Foundation (VUFFF). These events build off of Kiwassa's weekly low-cost produce market, adding in local food makers and vendors, live music and performances, talented artisans, community organizations, workshops and activities, plus free food and snacks. They are opportunities to bring together our diverse neighbourhood and create a celebratory community gathering. The first 2 took place in Pandora Park and similar to last year, our September event will take place at Kiwassa Neighbourhood House. Whereas the Pandora Park markets had vendors and artists selling their crafts, this event centres connection and access to food resources in the community. There will be the low-cost produce market with affordable fruits and vegetables as well as community organizations that provide food access or are involved in work around food justice. It’s an opportunity to both showcase and celebrate the various organizations doing valuable food work in our neighbourhood while helping residents connect with these organizations to access resources and / or discover volunteer opportunities. There will also be free workshops and activities related to food and gardening, music, the chance to win market gift cards, plus free food and snacks.
We hope you can join us at Kiwassa on Wednesday, September 18 between 2-5pm. For more information you can contact [email protected]
