Join local sculptor Fiona Garlick for her second wire workshop. Learn simple contour drawing techniques and transform them into 3-dimensional wire drawings. Looking at the wire works of artists such as David Oliver and Bridget Baker we will make our own minimalist animals and still life drawings with wire.
About Your Facilitator:
Born in England, Fiona lived in Africa before immigrating to New Zealand in 1976. After a 15-year career as a television director and producer, she pursued her artistic ambitions, studying art in London and Cornwall where she created her first award-winning bronze medal. Her early sculptural work was inspired by the sea, prompting a return to Auckland, where she graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts. Fiona has since exhibited widely in outdoor sculpture shows, with her work—often exploring themes of place, identity, and colonialism—held in private collections across New Zealand and Australia. An introduction to Medal Art New Zealand (MANZ) was pivotal, allowing her to refine her bronze skills and undertake several commissions.
Fiona returns to teach Community draw after a highly enjoyed session in September 2024.
