About this Event
Our topic for the evening will be "Communicating Before the Crisis." Officer Robie Cochran and criminal justice liaison Katie McFarland, LCSW will talk about some of the great work being done in Athens-Clarke County to identify patterns of concern between agencies in advance of a major crisis event. Some of these events are related to mental health needs in the community. This will be especially relevant for professionals in law enforcement, health care, and education...or anyone concerned about the need to proactively support people with mental illness.
We will also use some time at the end of the meeting to discuss action steps in building support for a new pilot program with NAMI Georgia to create a Children and Young Adult program or CYA. The CYA program is a collaborative project connecting the CIT-Youth in Crisis curriculum with NAMI signature programs. In the past NAMI initiated a program for Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) that has become a standard for law enforcement, as well as many other great support programs for adults. Now this program has the potential to transform the way we support youth through schools, court systems, and other institutions.
A light dinner will be served. Please RSVP.
