Common Grounds PEC (a local collaborative arts organization) is hosting a pop-up residency program that invites artists, performers, writers, and cultural workers to engage with our community at the Picton Farmers Market all summer. Feral Folc is excited to participate by activating the booth on Sunday August 17th, and September 14th, 9am to 2pm.Come on by to 'Meet Your Plantcestors' and take a mini botanical world tour from within the Picton Farmers' Market. Get to know your 'plantcestors' - a portmanteau of “plant” and “ancestor” coined by cultural botanist Layla K. Feghali - by using all your senses to explore the various weeds and wildflowers that grow in PEC.
This interactive display invites you to trace your own roots to local plants as well as those from far-flung corners of the globe, each with a story to tell about migration, resilience, and connection.
After meeting your chosen plantcestor, you can take a 'family portrait' with them or try your hand at botanical drawing to take home a personal keepsake that celebrates the ongoing relationship we all share with the plant kingdom, and those that you call kin.
The booth is open to the public and FREE to engage with thanks to support from the County Arts Council.
