About this Event
This one-day workshop aims to build understanding of the specific issues faced by people with asylum seeker and refugee backgrounds who are LGBTIQA+. Topics covered include strengths, vulnerabilities, and the risks experienced in home countries, during the journey and resettling in Australia. The workshop will highlight the multiple oppressions faced by LGBTIQA+ refugees, and explore the diversity of needs and experiences that are grouped under the LGBTIQA+ framework.
The Coming In workshop will increase awareness of assumptions and biases that may negatively impact on the provision of effective assistance. Coming In aims to enhance the experience of services for LGBTIQA+ clients, to become safer and more welcoming for all.
There is a choice of two dates: Wednesday 22nd October OR Thursday 23rd October, 9:30 am - 4:30pm. Select only one date when booking your ticket.
Accessibility: Please note the training is held upstairs
This training is being brought to South Australia by the NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors, and will be facilitated by those with the lived experience of seeking sanctuary due to diversity of sexuality, gender, relationships, family and bodies.
