About this Event
The press is under pressure—and it’s not the kind you can fix with a deadline extension or stronger coffee. And nowhere is that more evident here in the U.S. than Voice of America.
VOA is facing existential threats from the political sphere, along with budget cuts and a growing hostility to truth-tellers. The administration is working hard and fast to silence VOA. Filling the void where VOA once delivered fair, unbiased journalism across the world — propaganda from Russia and China.
Among its most vulnerable team members are visa holders: journalists who fled censorship and persecution in their home countries, who now risk losing their legal status in the U.S., with no safe country to. These reporters aren’t just employees—they’re the backbone of VOA’s global mission. They translate democracy into dozens of languages, delivering fact-based news to places where there is no independent media.
That’s why we’re throwing a benefit the only way we know how: with jokes sharp enough to cut red tape. Join us on October 25th at 8pm at The Festival Center for the Comedy Show to #SaveVOA—a night of stand-up comedy to raise funds for VOA’s emergency support program for its most at-risk colleagues. Every dollar helps those in need while raising awareness of VOA and its vitally important mission.
Come laugh with us, rage with us, and help us fight for the future of public-interest journalism.
