About this Event
AMANDA COHEN:
OG GenX comedy!
She’s the voice of a generation no one wants to
hear from, and audiences of all ages love her. She
can be clean enough for a church, hot enough for
a bar, and smart enough for public radio. Amanda
will challenge your assumptions about women of a
certain age with her darkly intelligent humor.
Nobody’s Mom
She's played bars, breweries, bookstores, basements, back
yards, buses, and barns, and of course clubs and colleges. She
studied improv at Second City Conservatory, The Annoyance
Theater, and ComedySportz, then moved from Chicago to LA in
2017 and hosts, showcases, features, and headlines all over.
This year she debuts her solo show, My Pro-Choice Life, at
LACAE Theater in North Hollywood, on Feb 6th.
Amanda started doing comedy when she was 17 and before she
finished college in Pittsburgh she was showcasing at clubs and
colleges across the upper midwest, including many great
comedy clubs that don't exist anymore (including at least one
that literally burnt down). Then she quit for a few years to study
improv in Chicago.
An epiphany in 2015 reminded her she was a comedian. After a
couple of years in the Chicago scene, she moved to LA and has
performed all over the country and at many clubs including the
Improv in Hollywood, Zanies and The Laugh Factory in Chicago,
Stir Crazy in Phoenix, Mic Drop in San Diego, and the Comedy
Studio in Boston. Her biggest TV appearance to date (not
counting commercials) was an appearance on Good Mythical
Morning. Her influences include George Carlin, Albert Brooks,
Paula Poundstone, and Dana Gould. Some of her shows were a
long time ago. How long ago? She once hosted a show with a
young feature named Patton Oswalt. Yes, feature. It was a long
time ago.
