COME FROM AWAY
Auditions: Sunday May 31 at 7 pm and Monday June 1 at 7 pm
Performances: September 4 – 12, 2026
Director: Patrick Williams
Music Director: Steven McKinney
Choreographer: Anna Lewis
Synopsis
Come From Away tells the true story of when seven thousand people from across America and around the world landed on the doorstep of Gander, Newfoundland…and the people of Gander “put the kettle on.” When 38 planes were diverted to a small Canadian community on September 11, 2001, the town’s population doubled in an instant. While the world witnessed the worst acts of humanity, the stranded passengers had their faith in humanity renewed by the spirited people who comforted those who had “come from away.”
Cast size
12 – (6 women, 6 men.) All characters double as smaller parts, including town staff, passengers, children, and pets.
See website for detailed character breakdowns and other information.
General information
Auditions will include cold reads, singing and dancing.
You may (though it is not required) prepare a short monologue.
Auditioners may be single, paired or grouped. Everyone will have the opportunity to read for multiple roles. Not everyone will read for all roles.
Prepare a song of your choice which features your range. Bring your own accompaniment. Tracks may be played from your phone. Tracks must be instrumental ONLY (no vocals). If you wish to use sheet music, bring your own accompanist.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for dancing (NO crocs or flip flops).
Bring your audition form printed and filled out INCLUDING all anticipated conflicts. The form may be filled out and printed from aikencommunitytheatre.org/auditions
This musical is deliberately diverse and MUST have at least 2 people of color. The director reserves the right to cast the show as he sees appropriate as determined by the audition pool.
Understand that you may be offered a role for which you did not audition. There are NO small roles – each character plays many roles.
Please read the primary character breakdown and character tracking on our website to help you select the role(s) for which you would prefer to audition.
All cast members WILL need to, at times, assume different accents and some will speak different languages. Some roles require physical intimacy (kissing). ALL roles will require dancing (mostly marching/stepping to the music).
Everyone is encouraged to watch the Broadway version on YouTube (although the sound and picture quality are poor). You can also see the filmed version on Apple TV (if you have a subscription).
