A rare chance to sing Ethel Smyth’s Mass in D!We will spend the day Ethel Smyth’s Mass in D culminating in a 'performance’
Our MD John Powell says:
Ethel Smyth – who's she? A leading British composer of the period of Elgar, Parry and Vaughan Williams – known to Tchaikovsky, Brahms and Mahler, championed by Arthur
Sullivan and Thomas Beecham.
And yet for much of the 20th century her music was totally overlooked, simply because of her gender!
Smyth's powerful setting of the Mass was premiered at the Royal Albert Hall in 1893. A Proms performance four years ago brought this music back into the public eye – where it belongs!
Spaces in all voices apart from altos.
Cost £25 including score hire.
