Екваториалната гора изчезва къс по къс.
Заглъхва полифонията на племената. Под рева на моторните триони в Африка изтлява природният свят, с него и човешкият. В полумрака на залата, подобно на нощен ритуал в свещената гора на Камерун, хореографът Зора Снейк напомня онова, което сякаш сме забравили – хората и природата са неделими. Той създава магнетична хореография, вдъхновена от борбата на онези, които виждат гората като наследствен дом, уютен и понякога опасен, но никога плячка. Това е БИТКАТА НА ЛИАНИТЕ, политически и зрелищен танцов спектакъл, копродукция на One Dance Festival и Националния театър на Белгия.
Насред завладяваща сценография и звукова среда с електро бийтове и шамански звуци, седем танцьори и музиканти се протягат към светлината, тоест справедливостта. Телата на племето се преплитат, извиват и съединяват, подобно на гъвкави лиани, които растат към небето. Лиани – символ на устойчивост, обновление и единство, чиито „възли“ могат да са несломими. Плавно, а след това конвулсивно, те се впускат в танц, който няма друг жанр, освен активизма. Срещу обезлесяването, което заплашва съществуването на коренното население на Централна Африка. И не свършва дотам.
Вместо да разказва история, БИТКАТА НА ЛИАНИТЕ е ритуал, който създава колективно пространство за изцеление и пробуждане. Не само на сцената, но и в коридорите към нея, още преди началото. Спектакълът е метафора за „бруталното състояние на света”, изправен пред екологични кризи. Жива фреска на застрашеното да изчезне. Това „фабрикуване на дивото“ в театъра е покана да се върнем към корените и да осмислим наново връзката си с околната среда. Защото опазването й е също и опазване на традициите, културите и мъдростта на хората.
Проучвайки общности в Централната Африка – народът бака, обитаващ дъждовната гора в няколко централноафрикански държави, и традициите на народите кунганг, Зора Снейк надскача екоактивизма към темите на справедливостта, идентичността, оцеляването и общата ни отговорност към живия свят. Той е изследовател и културен активист, който използва танца като инструмент за социална критика, политически действия и духовно израстване. Смесвайки хип-хоп, съвременен танц и древни обреди, той разглежда танца не като стил или жанр, а като начин за осмисляне на света в неговото многообразие.
След като постави въпроса за кражбата на произведения на изкуството в периода на колонизацията, Снейк отново коментира системите на господството и капитализма. Дългогодишен сътрудник на Националния театър на Белгия, където се състоя и световната премиера на БИТКАТА НА ЛИАНИТЕ, той превръща танца в акт на солидарност с всички маргинализирани и невидими хора. Защото независимо дали за бака в Африка или бороро в Бразилия, проблемите са сходни и свързани - принудително разселване, загуба на местообитания, социално неравенство, изчезване на културното наследство. И ако има изход, той е заключен в сентенция на племето бака: „Гората сме ние. Ние сме гората.“

Зора Снейк
Зора Снейк, чието рождено име Тежеутса означава „човек със силна емпатия“ на традиционния език йемба, е хореограф, танцьор и изследовател в областта на сценичните изкуства. През 2013 г. основава компанията „Зора Снейк“ в Яунде, Камерун, а през 2017 г. – Международния фестивал MODAPERF – MOuvements, DAnses et PERFormances. Многократен победител и финалист, той е смятан за един от най-обещаващите артисти на съвременната хип-хоп и арт сцена в Африка и не само. За него любопитството е това, което оправдава необходимостта да се изследва танцът, който не е на един, а на мнозина. Той преосмисля хип-хопа и съвременния танц, артистичните практики в градските пространства, отворени за публиката, и политико-поетичните ритуални представления, изкуството и обществото. За Зора Снейк танцът е по-скоро мисъл, дори предизвикателство по отношение на света, в който живеем, отколкото стил.
Носител на наградата „Визи за създаване“ на Institut Français (2016-2017), той работи в контекста на френската културна мрежа по целия свят, както и с Гьоте Институт. The equatorial forest is vanishing, bit by bit. The polyphony of the tribes is fading away. Beneath the roar of chainsaws in Africa, the natural world is dying - and with it, the human world. In the dim light of the theatre, like a nocturnal ritual in the sacred forests of Cameroon, choreographer Zora Snake reminds us of what we seem to have forgotten: that humanity and nature can not be separated. He crafts a magnetic choreography inspired by the struggle of those who see the forest as their ancestral home - cozy, sometimes scary, but never prey.
This is COMBAT DES LIANES, a political and spectacular dance performance, a production of Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles, and co-produced by One Dance Festival.
Amidst captivating scenography and a soundscape of electro beats and shamanic rhythms, seven dancers and musicians reach toward the light, toward justice. The bodies of the tribe intertwine, twist, and connect like supple vines climbing toward the sky. Lianas: symbols of resilience, renewal, and unity, whose knots cannot be undone. Smoothly, then convulsively, they launch into a dance that belongs to no genre but activism. Against deforestation, which threatens the very existence of the indigenous peoples of Central Africa. And it does not end there.
Instead of telling a story, COMBAT DES LIANES unfolds as a ritual that seeks a collective space for healing and awakening. Not only on stage, but also in the hallways leading to it, even before the start.The performance becomes a metaphor for the brutal state of the world amid ecological crises - a living fresco of what stands on the brink of extinction. It is a fabrication of the wild within the theatre hall, an invitation to return to our roots and to rethink our relationship with nature. Protecting nature also means safeguarding the traditions, cultures, and wisdom of its people
Drawing inspiration from communities in Central Africa - the Baka people, who inhabit the rainforests across several countries, and the traditions of the Kungang peoples, Zora Snake transcends eco-activism to confront questions of justice, identity, survival, and our collective responsibility to the living world. A researcher and cultural activist, he wields dance as a tool for social critique, political action, and spiritual growth. Blending hip-hop, contemporary dance, and ancient ritual, he approaches dance not as a style or genre, but as a way of comprehending the world in all its diversity.
After raising the issue of the theft of artworks during colonization, Snake once again reflects on the systems of domination and capitalism. A long-time collaborator with the National Theater of Belgium, where COMBAT DES LIANES had its world premiere, he transforms dance into an act of solidarity with all marginalized and invisible people. Whether it is the Baka in Africa or the Bororo in Brazil, the struggles are similar and interconnected: forced displacement, loss of habitat, social inequality, and the disappearance of cultural heritage. And if there is a way forward, it lies in a saying of the Baka tribe: “We are the forest. The forest is us.”

Zora Snake
Zora Snake, whose real name is Tejeutsa, which means "a person with a strong empathy" in the traditional language of Yemba, is a choreographer, dancer and researcher in performance art. In 2013, he founded the Zora Snake Company in Yaoundé and in 2017, the MODAPERF International Festival – MOuvements, DAnses et PERFormances. A multiple winner and finalist, he is said to be one of the most promising artists in the current hip-hop (Popping) scene, and in the art scene in Africa and elsewhere. For him, curiosity is what justifies the need to explore dance, which is not that of the One, but that of the Many. She rearticulates hip-hop and contemporary dance, artistic practices in urban spaces open to the public and politico-poetic ritual performances, art and society. In fact, dance here is less a style than a thought, even a challenge in relation to the world in which we live.
Winner of the 2016-2017 Visas for the creation program of the Institut Français, he works regularly in the French cultural network around the world, as well as with the Goethe-Institut. In 2021, in the wake of MODAPERF, he created the Espace-Labo, a place of artistic crossovers and sharing and a social and cultural incubator; it is open to artists and cultural operators to (re)invent artistic languages, professionalize young artists and thus perpetuate art in contact with audiences in Africa.
Zora Snake has a very strong relationship with commitment. First, because commitment is the primary material of his audacious and explosive pieces: Beyond the Human; I am; Cross-border; The Departure; The Aftermath of Colonization; The Masks Fall or Shadow Survivors. Then, because he is a permanent subject of reflection, the artist participates in conferences and seminars, he leads workshops, he writes.
Halfway between theory, method and archival document, her book L'art est une boxe – de la performance et du politique in collaboration with Julie Peghini and Dominique Malaquais, begun during a writing residency at the Camargo Foundation, offers essential keys to the apprehension of performance as a means of creating common spaces of contestation, of reflection and collaboration – spaces that transcend boundaries, both physical and disciplinary. He has recently collaborated with choreographers Serge Aimé Coulibaly and Amanda Piña.
