Join us for a relaxing and inspiring 4-week painting series where adult artists will learn to paint a stunning Columbia River Gorge landscape step by step. Designed for all skill levels, this guided workshop breaks the painting process into approachable weekly lessons, allowing you to build confidence, technique, and artistic flow at a comfortable pace. Each 1.5-hour session focuses on a key stage of the painting, helping you create a cohesive, finished artwork you’ll be proud to display.
Week 1: Composition & Underpainting
We’ll begin by studying the reference image and learning how to simplify the scene into basic shapes and values. Artists will transfer the design to canvas, establish the composition, and create an underpainting to set the foundation for light, depth, and atmosphere.
Week 2: Sky, Water & Distant Landscape
This session focuses on painting soft skies, reflective water, and distant hills using loose, impressionistic brushwork. You’ll learn color blending techniques, value shifts, and how to create depth and distance through atmospheric perspective.
Week 3: Foreground Cliffs & Trees
Bring the painting to life as we add the dramatic cliffs, layered forests, and mid-ground details. Artists will learn how to suggest texture, create movement in foliage, and balance warm and cool tones to enhance realism without over-detailing.
Week 4: Details, Highlights & Finishing Touches
In the final session, we’ll refine edges, deepen contrast, and add highlights and finishing details that pull the entire painting together. You’ll receive guidance on evaluating your work, making final adjustments, and knowing when a painting is complete.
All materials are provided, and no prior painting experience is required. Come unwind, learn new skills, and enjoy the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge through paint in this supportive and creative studio environment.
