About this Event
Trace, decorate, and explore emotions!
In this process-based workshop, children will explore emotions, identity, and self-expression through large-scale body tracing and mixed-media art. Working in pairs or with a supportive educator, each child will lie down on a large piece of paper to have their body gently traced — then decorate it using a variety of vibrant materials: fabric, tissue paper, markers, paint, natural textures, and more. The session begins with a a read-aloud of My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss as an introduction to the connection between color and emotion.
This creative experience supports:
💬 Emotional Awareness & Expression – Children explore how different emotions feel and look, and ways to express them through color, texture, and shape.
🎨 Creative Confidence – Making personal art helps children feel seen and proud of their individuality.
🤝 Social Skills – Working with a partner fosters trust, communication, and teamwork.
✋ Fine Motor & Sensory Development – Cutting, gluing, painting, and layering materials supports tactile exploration and coordination.
At Friendship in the Feld, we believe process-based art is a powerful way to nurture both creativity and connection. Every child will leave with a one-of-a-kind sculpture — and a big sense of accomplishment.

The workshop will begin with a short circle time, featuring a themed read-aloud and a fun movement activity to help kids warm up and connect. After that, children will dive into the sculpture-building process. A cozy sensory play and book area will also be available throughout the session for children for welcome play, who need a break throughout the session, or finish their sculpture early.
Looking forward to growing with you!
Further information: We will provide all craft and sensory materials as well as a caring and nurturing environment for safe and supported learning. We suggest you feed your child a small snack before the session, but will have some dry goods (rice crackers, raisins) on site just in case. We will also be providing coffee and tea for caregivers to enjoy while their children learn. We ask parents stay on site in case their child is struggling to join or having big feelings, but otherwise we invite adults in attendance to sit back, relax, and meet other parents. There is a toilet available for patrons but no changing table.
