6:30 PM – 6:40 PM | Introduction & Welcome

  • Presenter: Bill Plock
  • Brief introduction to the symposium, purpose, and the speakers.
  • Overview of the challenges of cycling in the Colorado mountains and why preparation is key.


6:30 PM – 6:50 PM | Session 1: Nutrition for High-Performance Cycling

  • Speaker: Katie Hardie, Hardie Peak Performance
  • Key topics:
  • How good nutrition habits start now and can affect performance months from now
  • Importance of fueling for long mountain rides.
  • Hydration strategies for Colorado's dry climate.
  • Pre-ride meals, during-ride snacks, and recovery nutrition.
  • Supplements and how they affect performance.
  • How to measure where you are at nutritionally and how to set goals.


6:50 PM – 7:10 PM | Session 2: Cycling Fitness & Training for Mountain Rides

  • Speaker: Tracey Jacobs, Tracey Jocobs Coaching
  • Key topics:
  • Specific conditioning for high-altitude and mountainous terrain.
  • Training programs to improve endurance, strength, and power.
  • How to pace yourself in mountain climbs and descents.
  • Essential bike handling skills
  • Skills for riding in groups
  • Importance of recovery and rest during training.
  • Pre-ride meals, during-ride snacks, and recovery nutrition.


7:10 PM – 7:30 PM | Session 3: Bikes and Bike Fitting

  • Speaker: Michael Bowers, Campus Cycles
  • Key topics:
  • Importance of bike fitting for injury prevention and efficiency.
  • Adjustments to make when riding in the mountains (climbs, descents, and long rides).
  • Understanding saddle, handlebar, and pedal position in mountainous rides.
  • Importance of proper gearing and understanding how to best use gears
  • Storage products (binto box, handlebar bag, saddle bag)


7:30 PM – 7:45 PM | High Altitude and how to prepare

  • Speaker: Common Spirit
  • Key topics:
  • How to recognize signs of altitude fatigue vs normal fatique
  • If coming from a lower altitude how to best prepare
  • Dealing with dryness, intense sun, and thin air


7:45 PM – 8:00 PM | Session 4: Clothing & Gear for the Colorado Mountains

  • Speaker: Primal
  • Key topics:
  • Layering strategies for changing weather in the mountains.
  • Essential gear for cold mornings, hot afternoons, and possible rain.
  • Choosing the right bike jersey, shorts, jacket, and shoes for mountain rides.
  • Importance of windproof and moisture-wicking fabrics.


8:00 PM | Closing Remarks & Networking

  • Final thoughts from the host and all guest speakers.
  • Open the floor for a brief Q&A session or mingling with the speakers.
