Colorado Concealed Handgun Renewal Course
Course Length: 4 Total Hours
Designed for: Concealed Handgun Permit Holders needing to renew their permit.
This half-day renewal course is designed to help current concealed carry permit holders meet the state’s requirements for permit renewal. It covers firearm safety, Colorado gun laws, and includes a range qualification to ensure you’re up-to-date with current legal and safety standards.

Written Test
- Multiple Choice
- 80% or higher
Range Qualification (2 hours)
- 50-round Qualification Requirement
- Qualification on IDPA or FBI Target
Qualification Standards:
- 7 feet: 10 rounds
- 10 feet: 10 rounds
- 15 feet: 5 rounds
Must score 70% or higher on the target (at least 18 hits out of 25)
Classroom Portion Schedule:
- 9:45 AM - 10:00 AM: Registration
- 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Classroom Portion (Firearm safety, laws, and fundamentals)
- 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM: Commute to Shooting Range
- 1:15 PM - 2:30 PM: Range Qualification (live-fire portion)
What to Bring:
- Your State issued Indentification
- A semi-auto or revolver handgun (chambered in .22, .32, .380, 9mm, .40, .45, 10mm, .38 SPL, or any other pistol caliber)
- 50 rounds of ammunition (minimum) or more
- Minimum of one magazine
- Gun case
- $20 range fee
- Eye & Ear Protection (Electronic Ear Protection Preferred)
- Good hygiene
- Positive attitude
- Food/Snacks if needed
- Closed toes shoes
- No low cut t-shirts
Course Prerequisites:
- Must have a valid Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit
- This course is for renewal only (not for new applicants)

Classroom Portion:
The classroom portion will cover all updated state laws, firearm safety protocols, basic shooting fundamentals, and other important updates regarding responsible concealed carry. This refresher course helps ensure you stay current on important changes in gun laws and firearm safety.
Qualification Requirements:
- Qualification involves shooting 50 rounds at an IDPA or FBI target, with the following requirements:
- 7 feet: 10 rounds
- 10 feet: 10 rounds
- 15 feet: 5 rounds
- Or All 50 Rounds at 21 feet at Full Sized Target
- Scoring: You must achieve at least 70% accuracy (at least 18 hits out of 25 rounds).
Important Notes:
- Certificate: After completing the course and passing the range qualification, you will receive a certificate of completion that is required for renewal of your Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit. Participation in this class does not guarantee you will pass the shooting qualification. If you do not pass, you will have to book time with your instructor to complete the shooting qualification.
- Mandatory Training: The course includes mandatory training as required by Colorado law for permit renewal.
