We will explore the development of Irish archaeology from the colonial period to the formation of the Republic, focusing on how the field was shaped by the personal politics of its practitioners. By examining the careers and ideologies of three key archaeologists, this study highlights the ways in which political context and individual belief systems influenced interpretations of Ireland’s past and the construction of national identity through archaeology.
