About this Event
Wednesday, 10th December 2025 | 6:30pm - 9:00pm | Lancaster Rooms, New Wing, Somerset House, London, WC2R 1LA
Join us for an essential evening of dialogue and collective imagination, chaired by Elif Sarican and featuring Joshua Virasami, Simon Dubbins, Akram Salhab, Yara Rodrigues Fowler and more, as we explore how learning together can build the foundations for transformative change.
In these times of profound challenge—as communities face rising authoritarianism, workers' rights are under attack, and the climate crisis deepens—we gather not in despair, but in determination. This conversation comes at a critical moment when governments bankroll genocidal violence across the globe, whilst far-right violence erupts on our streets and police forces grow increasingly authoritarian. As migrant communities face state-sanctioned violence, women confront rising threats to their safety, and our education system sees its democratic values systematically dismantled, we refuse to remain passive.
Yet we also recognise and celebrate the growing resistance—people across the world are striving for a free and just society like never before. This event celebrates the flourishing Left Book Club reading group community that reads and learns in order to act together, and marks the launch of our new online academy of short courses designed to deepen our collective understanding and capacity for change.
Through open debate, thoughtful organising, and the power of imagination, we'll examine how collective learning becomes a tool for transformation and how we can build the alternatives we desperately need.
The evening promises to be both relaxed and engaging—a space for genuine conversation about creating change. As we approach the new year, this is your opportunity to connect with others who share your commitment to building a better world, leaving energised and hopeful about what we can achieve together.
