Join us on one of our new Grand Scale Trails in 2026. The Coledale Horseshoe (AKA The Coledale Round) is a glorious walk over the Wainwright Fells, situated above Braithwaite near Keswick.There are some variations to this round, but the route we will use visits the fells of Grisedale Pike, Hopegill Head, Eel Crag, Sail, Outerside, Stile End, and Barrow, 6 of which are Wainwrights. Perfect for the Wainwright baggers amongst you!
Alongside the stunning views, in the late Summer months the tops are adorned with luscious lilac heather with a heavenly heady scent.
This is a 10 mile + (16.4km) somewhat strenuous route (certainly the start, up to Grisedale Pike) with a mix of steep ascents, scrambly rocky steps, and pleasant soft grassy swathes. These undulations can really take their toll, with a total climb of 4,350ft / 1300m) hence this walk is best for fit, strong walkers. However, please rest assured that our Grand Scale Trails are led by a qualified and experienced Mountain Leader, who will support you and encourage you along the way. We will have plenty of rest breaks and walk as a group at all times.
For an investment of £45 per person (£85 for a couple), you will be able to experience a true mountain trail with an experienced guide, enjoy spectacular views, and ultimately feel an incredible sense of achievement.

Well behaved / friendly dogs (with people and other dogs) are welcome, but make sure they are capable and bear in mind that we are likely to encounter livestock and steep edges in places, so leads are needed.
Please arrange your own transport and accommodation, if required. However, if you would like me to help arrange car pooling, this will be an option, also.
We recommend having insurance to cover, at a minimum: cancellation and curtailment.
