About this Event
Two of Milwaukee’s best songwriters, John Sieger and MIke Fredrickson, join forces with stellar sideman Robbie Gjersoe for an evening of Pop, Rock, Soul, Country and you-name-it songs you won’t want to miss.
Kenosha native John Sieger led the legendary bands The R& B Cadets and Semi-Twang. His songs have been covered by Dwight Yoakam, Jerry (Talking Heads) Harrison, Robbie Fulks and Flaco Jimenez, along with another twenty or so others. His current band, The John Sieger Combo, featuring long time members of both bands, is expecting a new CD, Swearing in Cursive to drop any moment now.
Producer & Guitarist and Knopfler Sideman, Richard Bennett
“John Sieger’s wheelbarrow brings a song’s relentlessness from the field to the barn, and there is no rust anywhere on it. His terse wit and keen melodies are what gets him in the listener’s door, but he knows the world would make no sense without rocking & rolling, and so he delivers.”
Austin Legend and Solo Artist Gurf Morlix (formerly Lucinda Williams’ Guitarist & Producer)
More years ago than bear thinking about, I became a fan of John through a mutual friend, fan and attorney. Let’s just call it a couple of decades ago and leave it there.
John was leading up a band called Semi-Twang that just had a new album out on Warner Brother’s Records. The songs on that record were stripped down, tough, rocking, smart, funny and sad.... his guitar playing was right up my street. I met John shortly after... turns out he was living in Nashville and we shared not only the same attorney but the same publishing company.
Milwaukeean Mike Fredrickson leads the reunited Moselys. In the 1990s they were a weekly not-too-be-missed attraction at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn. Featuring the mindblowing Telecaster great Royce Hall Jr. and Mike’s endless stream of stick-to-ribs pop songs. They’re back together now, much to the delight of discerning music lovers in this town. MIke’s solid bass playing and high harmonies led to extended gigs with both Paul Cebar and Robbie Fulks. Along with all of that, he does double duty as a well respected visual artist whose photo realistic paintings of his beloved Riverwest neighborhood have been shown in galleries, bars and coffee houses.
Chicagoan Robbie Gjersoe, an A-list guitarist who jumped from Paul Cebar’s band, The Milwaukeeans, to play with the legendary Flatlanders, Joe Ely and Austin legends like Jerry Jeff Walker. He also had a long stint with Robbie Fulks. He’s John and Mike’s favorite sideman, playing in both The Mosely’s and The JS Combo.
You could describe the noise this trio makes with the dreaded “Americana label,” but they’re so much more than that. See for yourself April 24th at the lovely, newly resurrected White Lilac, the niftiest small venue for miles around.
