About this Event
In a context of global crisis linked to the scarcity of raw materials, it becomes
essential to rethink design starting from the materials that are available.
Working with what exists implies a shift in paradigm: it requires flexibility,
adaptability, and a renewed sensibility to the intrinsic qualities of materials.
The seminar addresses the valorization of waste materials as a central driver
for the transition of the built environment, at the intersection of design and
architecture, with the aim of redefining processes, design practices, and
performance criteria. The topic will be explored at two different scales. On
the one hand, it focuses on the reuse of materials in architectural design,
highlighting the need for tools that support their integration; on the other, it
addresses the prototyping of construction products with recycled content
and the need to control their performance.
Taken together, these approaches outline two trajectories for the valorization
of waste materials, highlighting their potential and limitations.
