ABOUT CODY BELEW

I come from a place in Arkansas that’s uniquely positioned. It’s right in the middle of the origins of Southern American music. You’ve got St. Louis blues to the north, Memphis/delta blues to the east, New Orleans creole and jazz to the south, and Texas swing to the southwest. And then, closer to home, there’s the mountain bluegrass and gospel music everywhere you look. So for me to say that I’m Southern Glam Rock is the ultimate truth. If it shines and sparkles then I want to wear it, and if it’s a blend of all of those aforementioned sounds then I want to sing it. I truly am a product of my raising – as they say down here."

Hailed by Consequence as “one of the freshest voices coming out of Nashville,” Southern glam rock artist Cody Belew’s music reflects his soulful roots through authentic storytelling and commanding vocals. Reflecting on his upbringing in rural Beebe, Arkansas, what sticks with him most is the one-room church where he learned to sing when he was just a toddler. Blending raw emotion with Southern stomp, Cody’s material moves far beyond his contemporaries with a unique point of view on faith and love that he approaches with fearless honesty. Cody made his way to Nashville to pursue a music career, where he made ends meet working with fashion, furniture restoration, and music. It wasn’t long before his talents were recognized, earning him an appearance on NBC’s THE VOICE. After finishing the show as a Top 8 finalist, Cody was asked to open for Delta Rae, Florida Georgia Line, Rascal Flatts, and more, and started writing with GRAMMY® Award-winning Deana Carter and Mike Reid, ACM Award winner Tia Sellers, and ascending recording artists like Hailey Whitters, Rick Brantley, and Waylon Payne.

Assembling a mix of candid originals and well-loved classics by artists who inspired him, Cody released his self-titled debut EP in early 2022. The lead single, “Rodeo,” premiered in Times Square and quickly found regular rotation on CMT. His take on the Dolly Parton classic “Here You Come Again” was a welcome reinvention, with Robert Oermann from Music Row Magazine saying “he completely reinterprets this 1977 Dolly hit, transforming it from a bouncy ditty into a cry of romantic anguish. His only accompaniment is a pianist, but his dramatic performance is so gripping that it needs nothing else.” Cody also received praise for his reimagining of the Brooks & Dunn classic “Neon Moon” (a collaboration with GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Dave Audé), which topped a variety of popular Spotify playlists and recently surpassed three million streams on the platform

Belew recently landed a coveted spot in CMT’s lauded “Listen Up” class (which counts Kacey Musgraves, Kelsea Ballerini, Thomas Rhett, and Maren Morris as alumni) leading into the release of his poignant single “Charlene,” in which the former Southern Baptist questioned the marriage of religion and politics in America. Striking a chord with fans, the accompanying powerful video racked up over one million views on YouTube. As a rising voice in the LGBTQIA+ community, he also attended Vice President Harris’ star-studded Pride Event last June. Belew released the title track “I Did It For Love'' from his forthcoming debut album of the same name last Fall. Grimy Goods called the single “meteoric and captivating... One inspired by the arresting magnetism of Freddie Mercury – though he also echoes Orville Peck’s enigmatic allure and a talent for crafting country pop hooks like Kacey Musgraves.” In May he released the album’s second single “Horseshoes & Hand Grenades” which saw its inspiration from the country music of the 1970s, primarily due to the heavy influence of disco during that time. The accompanying videos for both singles are presently in full rotation on CMT, presenting Cody at his most bold and bedazzled.

A long-time Nashville resident, Cody recently completed a yearlong, sold-out residency at the city’s famed Lipstick Lounge, a showcase at Soho House, and a set at the OG Basement. He has a slew of other live shows on the horizon for a fan base he’s built with his impassioned vocals, authentic storytelling, and undeniable stage presence. Belew is spending the summer releasing new music as he makes his way towards the September release of his debut record, I Did It For Love, in which he’ll traverse between his deep-seated love of Southern music and his obligation to activism.
