The Columbus Ohio Discovery Ensemble (CODE) performs the beautiful and adventurous music of award-winning Ohio composer, Jeffrey Mumford. Mumford's music is described by the New Your Times as "...a philosophy of music making that embraces both raw passion and a gentle imagistic poetry.” Mumford’s new work, “blossoming and resonant hues . . . suspended in the surrounding brightness” is a stunning chamber cello concerto featuring the highly acclaimed soloist, Julia Yang and is written in memoriam of abstract painter, sculptor, and arts educator, Sam Gilliam. This will be a world premiere performance. The concert will also feature an evocative graphic-score structured improvisation by Brittany J. Green, a compelling electro-acoustic work by Angélica Negrón that explores belonging and identity, and a lush work by Christopher Chandler inspired by the beauty of Shenandoah National Park. Admission is free. This concert is sponsored by the Johnstone Fund for New Music and the Ohio State University Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts. Seating is available on a first-come first-served basis and performances are recommended for ages 9 and older. Parking is available in Arps Garage which is a short walk to the School of Music Timashev Recital Hall.
