During ®, visit Mata Traders HQ for a cocktail reception and behind-the-scenes tour of Chicago’s largest fair trade fashion business with Chicago Fair Trade's Conscious Closet Club!
Owner Taylor McCleneghan will give a tour of the premises, explain Mata’s manufacturing and design process, and share how Mata Traders sources ethically from artisan partners in India and Nepal.
We’ll also be joined by Chicago Fair Trade’s Conscious Closet Club, who will share more information about what you can do to be an ally to garment workers worldwide.
You’ll also have the chance to browse Mata’s store and shop for gorgeous, fair trade fashion as you sip on cocktails made with delicious, ethically-made rum from Chicago Cane Cooperative!
💚 About the Conscious Closet Club
An initiative run by local non-profit Chicago Fair Trade, the Conscious Closet Club is a community of Chicagoans with an interest in ethical clothing and fashion who learn from each other, share ideas, and have fun. The Conscious Closet Club hosts events and workshops throughout the year at the Chicago Fair Trade Museum and across the city.
On the first Monday of each month, all are invited to join us at our monthly, virtual on Zoom. No matter whether you’re just starting out on your journey to become a more responsible fashion consumer, or you’re already something of an expert, these sessions are open for everyone. Join us to chat about what’s happening in the world of fashion and how we can collectively build a more ethical fashion industry – starting by building your very own conscious closet! On the third Thursday of each month, we host at the Chicago Fair Trade Museum. There’s already enough clothing on the planet to last six generations – so let’s keep the items we already have in use! Mending extends the life of your garments, saves money, and reduces fashion waste. Join us at the Chicago Fair Trade Museum for our monthly mending workshop, where you’ll learn simple hand-repair techniques to keep your favorite pieces out of the landfill. Whether you’re an seasoned stitcher or a total newbie, all are welcome. We’ll provide basic supplies and instruction – just bring something you’d like to repair.
