On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, Spinner Publications will host author Carl Hoffman at the Wamsutta Club, 427 County Street, New Bedford, MA, from 6pm to 8:30pm. Carl will talk about his motivations and experiences writing Savage Harvest: A Tale of Cannibals, Colonialism & Michael Rockefeller’s Tragic Quest for Primitive Art, an in-depth investigation into Rockefeller’s disappearance off Papua New Guinea in 1961. A stranger-than-fiction tale, Hoffman will present the story using slides and a video. This fascinating presentation will include a meet-and-greet with the author in a relaxed cocktail-party ambiance, a Q&A session, hors d’oeuvres, cheese and fruit plates, fresh vegetable crudités, and a cash bar. Copies of Savage Harvest will be available for purchase and signing.
The Wamsutta Club provides ample parking and features 19th-century architecture, including chandeliers, fireplaces, and a welcoming atmosphere. Tickets are $35. Carl Hoffman is the author of five books, including Savage Harvest, a New York Times Book Review, Editors’ Choice, a New York Times bestseller, a Washington Post notable book of the year, which has been translated into ten languages, and The Lunatic Express, named one of the ten best books of the year by The Wall Street Journal. He is a former contributing editor at Wired and National Geographic Traveler magazines, and has reported from some 80 countries. His sixth book, about New Bedford and commercial fishing, will be published by HarperCollins/Mariner Books in 2027.
