About this Event
Muslims in the UK are significantly underrepresented in the mental health space and we want to find out why.
Come join us at Cambridge Central Mosque for a morning of zine making while having an open conversation about mental health among young Muslims in the UK. Free tea, coffee and pastries will be served.
Why 9am?
Start your Saturday meaningfully with breakfast on us, finish by noon with the rest of your weekend free. Take advantage of the quiet morning atmosphere at Cambridge Central Mosque to reflect on mental health. The morning will begin with a breathing exercise led by two local GPs to help us relax into the day.
What is this?
A workshop focused on amplifying the voices of young Muslims (18-35) in the mental health space. We're working with them to understand the barriers they face to seeking out mental health support, and designing solutions to address these challenges. We want to make sure we're designing WITH the community, not just for them.
Who are we?
The workshop is fully funded by CogCo and as members of the Market Research Society (MRS), we will be following their Code of Conduct when conducting this research.
CogCo is a research consultancy that uses behavioural science, data science and design insights to achieve positive behaviour-change outcomes. You can find more of our work here https://cogco.co/ and more information about the Muslim Voices project on instagram @muslim__voices.
This workshop is also supported by two local Muslim GPs.
What is a zine?
A zine is a short, handmade booklet on a specific topic. You'll get to create and take home a zine on your experience as a young Muslim in the UK with seeking out mental health support, or barriers you face to seeking out support. Following this, we'll come up with ideas on how to address some of those challenges.
This is a great opportunity to connect with others in the community and have a direct impact on Muslim mental health.
A safe space
There is no pressure to share any personal stories and you are free to leave the event whenever you'd like.
