About this Event
CMCH Women's Month Concert
Join CMCH, Dr. Anne Lundy, and Houston Icon Melanie Lawson for the CMCH Women's History Month Concert, a lively in-person event showcasing the power and creativity of women in music! Come enjoy uplifting performances by the Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra, connect with amazing people, and soak up the positive vibes. It’s all about fun, inspiration, and honoring women’s achievements. Don’t miss out on this awesome celebration – bring your friends and get ready to have a great time!
This concert features guest artists from across the country: Steinway Hall of Fame pianist Donna Weng Friedman, critically acclaimed composer Stefania de Kenessey, and master double bassist Dr. Jacqueline Pickett. The world or Texas premiere of their music pieces will be performed! Also, this concert will be hosted by former ABC13 news anchor and Community Leader Melanie Lawson! Also the Debate Coach Dr. Gloria Batiste-Roberts of the Award-winning Texas Southern University Debate Team will perform as well.
What makes this concert truly unique is the intergenerational collaboration. Original pieces written by Black girls from Houston area high schools will also be performed by the Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra. These young women have developed their works under the guidance of our guest artists, and their voices will debut on the same stage as these world-class professionals. This program serves as a professional bridge and a pipeline for underrepresented talent, ensuring the next generation is heard in a professional and entertaining experience!
There will be a reception at the church following the event.
This event in funded inpart by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance and by the Texas Commission of the Arts.
