About this Event

Join Women in Corporate Social Responsibility and Dena May Styling for our 2nd sustainable fashion event and clothing swap Saturday, September 28th from (10:30-1:30) at Sports Basement on Bryant St, 5th floor. We are excited to bring Trashie/ For Days into the mix this year! They’ll be joining us to provide education about their apparel lifecycle system and bags for unwanted items!

We’ll be bringing together those identifying as female to share resources and connect on creating more sustainable habits so we can all work to reduce the impacts of fast fashion. Discover how shopping and swapping secondhand promotes sustainability by keeping items out of landfills.

As Halloween approaches, we’re adding a little fun twist to the clothing swap! Instead of buying another Halloween costume online, why not see what creative outfits we can put together from the swap? Bring old costumes and any quirky, funky items that can be transformed into a new Halloween costume!

Bring 5-10 of your best pieces, everyday or costumes you no longer wear, to swap for new gently worn pieces. You can still join us if you’re a minimalist and are just looking to spend time with our awesome group! You’ll still be invited to join the swap and leave with something new.

Expect shopping with good tunes, connecting with an awesome group of women/ female identifying, and a cat walk to show of your new pieces!!!

Why Swap? Clothing has turned into a disposable commodity, directly contributing to climate change, gender inequality, social injustices, The average NYC household throws away about 120 pounds of textiles a year, amounting to approximately 13 Brooklyn Bridges of clothing, shoes, linens, and accessories in total. Additionally, 10 times as much textile waste is being thrown away before consumers see the products.

A clothing swap is a gathering of people who exchange their valued but no longer used clothing for “new” clothing they will use from someone else’s wardrobe. These swaps are an impactful and low cost way to extend the life of our clothes, divert textiles from landfills, mix up your wardrobe, and meet like-minded people.
