About this Event
Students on the MScR Collections and Curating Practices programme have collaborated with the Centre for Research Collections to create this unique opportunity to see and engage with rare archival materials held in the University of Edinburgh's Heritage Collections. As part of their Closet for the Curious: Old College's Uneven Evolutions, currently on display at Talbot Rice Gallery, these are materials linked to the Old College’s spaces and their histories.
With Rachel Hosker, University Archivist and Research Collections Manager, Claire Walsh, acting Art Collections Curator, and Liv Laumenech, Assistant Art Collection Curator, the event will include objects that tell the story of the development of the University, from the Scottish Enlightenment onward. Picking up critical stories it will explore issues of the accessibility of education s, the construction of scientific knowledge and the impact of colonialism and empire on the building of Old College. There will be an open discussion where attendees will be invited to reflect upon the materials and share their responses to the themes they raise.
This event takes place in the Centre for Research Collections which is on the 6th floor of the Main Library on George Square (EH8 9LJ). When you booked a ticket you name would be placed on a list at the library reception. This will allow you to gain access to the main library. From here, head to the lifts and go up to floor 6. There is a reception here and you will be guided to the event.
