About this Event
A 5-week art-based book club for clinicians committed to rigorous self inquiry, reflection, and exploration of intersectionality, and the implication of individual values in our work. We aim to explore themes related to cultural attunement, and active approaches to dismantling systemic harms in helping professions.
We will focus primarily on the book Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? by Beverly Daniel Tatum, PhD. (2017), and will utilize creative explorations to process material, integrate new concepts, and gain important professional insights through mindfulness and creativity.

This is for you if:
- You are a clinician or other helping professional working with diverse populations.
- You want to deepen your understanding of the roles of structural violence in healthcare and other systems.
- You are finding yourself frequently confronted by confusion, frustration, and uncertainty around issues pertaining to power, race, ethnicity, and white supremacy.
- If you sort of see what the fuss is about but aren’t sure what to do with that.
- If you’re not sure what all the fuss is about, but sense a necessity to learn.
Each week participants will process responses to that week's reading material and invite depth through supplemental materials and that week's guided creative process. Art making experperiences are designed to be approachable for all comfort levels, and to invite deeper reflection and understanding. Participants are encouraged to bring a journal as a space for note taking, witnessing, or journalling, if it feels aligned. While there may be moments where participants are invited to share- sharing is in no way mandatory.
While this is an educational and self reflective space, it is not a therapy group and is not a suitable replacement for therapy.
