Climbing for Climate Justice - An Evening of Film and Climate Conversation
Join us at the High Country Motor Lodge for the community premiere of Navajo Solar Sunrise, an inspiring documentary that follows a team of local Navajos working to improve their nation with green and renewable energy. The film features Mr. Lameman and Ms. Benally, co-directors of c4evergreen, who delivered solar and battery kits to Indigenous people lacking energy resources, alongside AZ congressional candidate Johnathon Nez (Navajo). Set against the breathtaking landscapes of the Navajo Nation, including Navajo Mountain, the film explores their journey and the urgent challenges of climate change.
With a deep commitment to environmental protection and the rights of Indigenous communities, Kitty Calhoun, an accomplished climber turned climate justice advocate, and the team shine a light on the intersection of adventure, activism, and cultural preservation as they fight for a sustainable future. Their story reminds us of the power of nature and the importance of standing up for our planet.
Following the screening, we invite you to engage in a special panel discussion featuring esteemed guests, including Johnathon Nez, Dr. Wendsler Nosie Sr. (San Carlos Apache), Mr. Lameman as a tribal elder, and Ms. Benally as the moderator. They will share their insights on climate change and its impact on their communities, fostering a collaborative dialogue aimed at inspiring action.
