On Thursday 28th May, Dr Lisa Sheenan (Assistant Professor in Banking and Finance at University College Dublin) will give the fourth IMS talk of 2026. In "Climate Finance: Markets, Responsibility and the Cost of Climate Action", Lisa will provide an accessible introduction to the evolving climate finance landscape, including international climate agreements, public and private finance mechanisms, carbon markets, and debates around fairness and responsibility in climate action. The talk will also explore new research on Ireland’s “carbon debt” and how emissions overshoot could create future legal, fiscal, and policy implications for high-income countries under the Paris Agreement.
