Tuesday 3rd December - THEME: ENERGY OWNERSHIP
Energy bills have risen yet again, and families across Scotland are struggling to heat their homes. All this while energy companies make massive profits and eye-watering bonuses.
How can we have more control over our energy system, so that it works for everyone? Can we use more wind and solar energy, and can we make it affordable? Can we make our homes cosy and warm, while also not costing the earth?
Flick Monk, Community and Public Energy Campaigner at Platform, and Gary Jack from XR Highlands will facilitate a workshop focusing on the big issues around energy - affordability, decarbonisation, and ownership. They’ll ask participants to share their own experiences with energy bill rises, and ideas they have for alternatives. And they’ll introduce an exciting new project aiming to change the energy system in the Highlands to one that’s greener, more affordable, and democratic.
Tickets are free (donations welcomed) but please book so we have an idea of numbers and to ensure there is enough soup. Follow this link: https://buytickets.at/velocitycafeandbikeworkshop/1397168
What is a Climate Café? A Climate Café is a community-led, informal, inclusive and inspiring space to get together, share ideas, information and get involved in climate action locally.
What is it like to go along to a Climate Café? Climate Cafés are relaxed and informal, so you should be able to just drop in, have a cuppa, and a chat – just like any café! It is a space where everyone gets to contribute and the conversation moves through the topics people are interested in. Expect the chat to be wide ranging, with a positive focus on what we can do!
