Nevada’s Gambling Treatment Diversion Court (GTDC) is the nation’s first and only court designed specifically for individuals whose criminal behavior is driven by disordered gambling. Authorized in 2009 and launched in 2018, it represents a major shift in how a gambling state addresses the intersection of disordered gambling, crime, and accountability.
This session examines the court’s purpose and evolution amid a gambling landscape transformed by online gaming, mobile wagering, and the rapid expansion of legalized sports betting. As gambling becomes more accessible, the consequences extend beyond the individual—destabilizing families, straining communities, and placing the public at risk.
For gaming executives, scholars, lawyers, treatment providers, policymakers, law students, and media, this presentation offers a compelling look at how Nevada’s model aims to restore stability, protect the public, and serve as a blueprint for jurisdictions across the country and around the world seeking to confront the growing impact of disordered gambling.
