THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965)Salzburg, Austria, on the eve of World War II: Maria (Julie Andrews), a spirited and free-spirited young woman, is training to become a nun but struggles with the disciplined life at Nonnberg Abbey. Recognizing her vivacious nature, the Mother Abbess (Peggy Wood) sends her to serve as the governess for the seven children of the widowed naval officer, Captain Georg von Trapp (Christopher Plummer).
Maria quickly wins over the initially mischievous and skeptical von Trapp children with her kindness, creativity, and love of music. As Maria and the children grow closer, she also begins to develop feelings for Captain von Trapp, who is engaged to the wealthy Baroness Schraeder (Eleanor Parker). Amidst the blossoming romance, the political climate in Austria becomes increasingly tense with the rise of the Nazi regime.
