Gardening is one of the most rewarding ways to spend time outdoors — but the bending, lifting, kneeling, twisting, and carrying involved can place strain on the body over time. In this interactive workshop, movement practitioners Benjamin and Kristie Merworth will teach practical strategies to help gardeners move more efficiently and reduce stress on their joints and spine while working in the garden.
Participants will learn simple posture and breathing principles that support better alignment, along with movement patterns that make everyday gardening tasks — like lifting soil bags, reaching into beds, kneeling, weeding, and carrying tools — feel more natural and sustainable. The session will include guided movement exercises, upper-body rotation patterns, and easy “movement resets” that can be done before, during, or after time spent gardening.
Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how the body is designed to move and a few simple techniques they can apply immediately to garden with greater comfort, strength, and longevity.
This class is beginner-friendly and suitable for gardeners of all experience levels. Comfortable clothing that allows for light movement is recommended.
