About this Event
This introductory improv class covers the fundamentals of unscripted scene-based long-form comedy, laying the groundwork for our five-level training program.
We teach you to let go of your inner critic so you can make things up and have fun! Whether you aim to perform on stage, improve public speaking, push yourself outside your comfort zone, or meet some fun people, this class is for you!
Class Topics Include:
- Improv navigation systems "Yes, and…" and "If This, Then What?"
- Being in the moment
- Active listening
- Getting out of your head
- Supporting your scene partner
- Using emotions to heighten scenes
- Creating & interacting with your environment
- Using your body and voice to create memorable characters
This nine-week IN-PERSON course is designed for beginning improvisers. You don't need any performance experience!
The class will be held on Tuesdays, 8 - 10 pm, starting 10/22/24. We will not have class Thanksgiving week (11/24 - 12/1) or during the Holiday Break (12/16 - 1/2). Class dates may be adjusted based on weather cancellations or other unforeseen circumstances.
The Student Showcase date for this class is Saturday, 1/18/2025, at 6 pm. Your instructor will provide the details.
Students must be 18 years or older.

This is an active class. You will be up moving. Please dress for comfort and moving around. No open-toed shoes, flip-flops, or heels.
All active Station Theater students receive free admission to Friday & Saturday regular shows, pending ticket availability at showtime.
All sales are final. Classes are non-refundable, but enrollment may be deferred to a future class.

PARKING & TRANSPORTATION: Ample street parking is available along Crockett, Hemphill, Summer, and Taylor Streets. Make sure to check street signs for parking availability. Please do not park in the lot in front of Toros HTX unless it is closed. Please be mindful when parking in front of area homes, as some driveways are difficult to see. The #30 bus stops at Sawyer St and Shearn St, which is approximately a 2-minute walk.

Station Theater offers five (5) levels of Improv classes and four (4) levels of Sketch Writing & Production classes. If you are new to the Station Theater community, we recommend you begin with Improv Level 1.
