Make birthdays, holidays, and celebrations unforgettable by learning to bake and decorate your own beautiful cakes!Join us for a fun and hands-on 4-week class led by Keisha Kelly of The Cottage in the Woods Bakery. You’ll learn the essentials of cake baking from start to finish: mixing and baking the perfect cake, creating smooth and delicious icing, and exploring a variety of decorating techniques to bring your creations to life.
Each student will receive a starter decorating kit to use during the course and take home. Have tools of your own collecting dust? Bring them along! We’ll help you learn how to use them with confidence.
The class schedule:
Week 1: Learn the Basics
*learn your tools
*how to bake, prepare, ice a cake
*types of frosting and how to color
Homework: bake a cake, prep and ice for next class
Week 2: Basics piping and borders
*learn to prepare, fill, hold bag
*simple buttercream techniques: lines, dots, rosettes, shells, stars, ruffles
*Writing: cursive and print
*borders: shell, rope, reverse shell, bead
*decorate the cake you brought with the skills you learned
Week 3: buttercream flowers
*learn rosettes, drop flowers, daisies, roses
*using a flower nail for roses
*designing a cake theme (color palette, layout, placement)
Homework: practice flowers, bake cake or cupcakes for final project
Week 4: Final project fun day
*we put all our skills to the test on our final cake
*instructor assistance with skills and design
